Social media and content strategy guide

Connect channel purpose, content pillars, production routines and measurement around a clear goal.

An empty calendar is easy to fill. Explaining why each post belongs there is harder. I start social content strategy with that explanation: a reader need, a meaningful brand response and a channel suited to the exchange.

Read the current situation

Before proposing formats, I use a social media audit to examine recent work, unanswered questions and the limitations of the data. I then define the role of each channel. Giving every platform the same purpose usually leads to resized copies rather than deliberate communication.

Connect subjects to a production routine

Content pillars identify the questions a brand should return to. I include moments of use, comparison and uncertainty rather than relying only on product categories. Moving from a calendar to a content system connects these decisions to ownership, sources and approvals.

Adapt the idea, not just its dimensions

Content repurposing works when the new format has its own useful purpose. A comparison might become a carousel; a reader question might become a short video. Each should remain understandable without requiring someone to find the original first.

Let measurement inform the next choice

Choosing social media KPIs connects the goal to an observable signal. I also examine the language of responses: community reply guidelines help a team listen and respond consistently. At the end of a cycle, the useful question is what the next cycle can do more deliberately, not simply how much was published.
